MADD West Virginia will be at the Governor's Mansion on November 17th from 3:00pm to 4:30 pm to kick off the "Tie One on For Safety" observance period. TOOFS is observed during the holiday season from Thanksgiving through New Year's Day, and individuals are encouraged to tie a red ribbon in visible locations to remind everyone to drive sober this holiday season.
A Gubernatorial proclamation will be presented during the reception and First Lady Gayle Manchin is expected to be in attendance.
MADD is joining with the Governor's Highway Safety Program, the WV Commission on Drunk Driving Prevention, law enforcement, and other highway safety advocates to promote drunk driving prevention this holiday season.

Motorcycle Safety Tips
- More than 90% of riders in accidents had no formal training. Take a Motorcycle RiderCourse to develop good riding techniques
- Conduct a safety inspection of your motorcycle before each ride
- Wear appropriate gear for comfort and protection, and make sure that your gear stands out so other motorists can see you
- Ride Sober! Alcohol and other drugs impair judgment and do not mix with motorcycling
- Know the local traffic laws and rules of the road-don't speed and show courtesy to other drivers
With winter weather coming, make sure you are prepared to hit the road!
- Keep emergency supplies, like an extra blanket and water, on hand
- Make sure tires are properly inflated
- Make sure your vehicle is in good driving condition
- Slow down in inclement weather
- Watch for deer, especially from October through December
- Avoid drinking and driving, and designate a sober driver
- And as always, buckle up and buckle your children up-every trip, every time!
