Several Highway Safety events are happening around the state this weekend!
Melissa Taylor and I will be joining certified CPS technicians from CAMC at the Teddy Bear Fair at Women and Children's Hospital this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you know anyone that needs their car seats checked, send them our direction!
The National Association of Buffalo Soldiers and Troopers Motorcycle Clubs will be in Charleston Saturday morning, meeting with Governor Manchin at 8 a.m., and then heading to the Clay Center in the afternoon and Simpson Memorial United Methodist at 6 p.m. For more details, see the article in the Charleston Gazette. Joe Tyree will be participating in this event and representing Highway Safety.
Paul Blume will be down in Beckley Saturday Night for the "Chili Night" with an informational booth/display set up. More details can be found here.
The mission of the West Virginia Highway Safety Program is to nurture grassroots initiatives and programs that promote occupant protection, support law enforcement, and stop impaired drivers, thereby reducing crashes, injuries and fatalities on the highways of West Virginia. Motorcycle Safety Tips
- More than 90% of riders in accidents had no formal training. Take a Motorcycle RiderCourse to develop good riding techniques
- Conduct a safety inspection of your motorcycle before each ride
- Wear appropriate gear for comfort and protection, and make sure that your gear stands out so other motorists can see you
- Ride Sober! Alcohol and other drugs impair judgment and do not mix with motorcycling
- Know the local traffic laws and rules of the road-don't speed and show courtesy to other drivers
With winter weather coming, make sure you are prepared to hit the road!
- Keep emergency supplies, like an extra blanket and water, on hand
- Make sure tires are properly inflated
- Make sure your vehicle is in good driving condition
- Slow down in inclement weather
- Watch for deer, especially from October through December
- Avoid drinking and driving, and designate a sober driver
- And as always, buckle up and buckle your children up-every trip, every time!
